Getting to Know Your MVTI

Vol. 41 | Music Vibes based on your MBTI Pt. 2

What’s up music pal,

This week, we’re continuing our two-part series on a concept I’ve dubbed as MVTIs, aka Major Vibes Type Indicator, which is my musical take on the famous MBTI personality system. If you haven’t caught up with the first 8 MBTI types from last week, you can check it out here!

Also, can you believe we’re already on the 41st edition of this newsletter??? When I first started Music Musings, I thought I’d just be casually sharing whatever songs that piqued my interest, and that was it. Fast forward eight months later, and it’s grown into quite the creative outlet where I get to experiment with new ideas and write my heart out.

From element-themed tracks to vibe-y moodboards, it’s been pretty awesome and fulfilling to know that there’s always something new to write about every week. (Or maybe I’m just a super knowledge absorber and a major yapper, HAHA.)

That said, all of this comes from just one person. And while I try to be as varied as possible with my picks, I know I have my own music biases, and everyone has their own music blind spots. So if you feel that I’ve been recommending the same recurring vibe lately or have suggestions that could enrich the Music Musings experience, you’re more than welcome to give those music recs a whirl!

And that wraps up our two-part series! We’ll start afresh with a new idea next week, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Until then, happy midweek! 🌟

Ciao,

Val

In this week's setlist:

🤝 The Diplomats (INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENFP)

This MBTI group is probably the most likely to give you a musical pep talk, given how they’re the most harmonious-seeking bunch. The songs that best describe them are inspiring, free-spirited and purposeful, the kind that brings you and your music pals coming together for a common joyful cause. Now that’s a real choir.

Get empowered with these heart-led vibes:

INFJ - The Advocate: Smoke + Dust by Pat Moon

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Ever heard a mystical and poetic tune in a chromatic, sometimes minor key? That’s likely what an INFJ-inspired track would sound like. Your soundwaves are filled with haunting vocals and echoing guitars, drawing from ethereal wave or dreamy indie styles.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: If ISFPs could write a song, it would read like a page from their diary. Expect indie folk influences, intimate vocals, acoustic elements, and a kind of vulnerability and sincerity that only the most personal storytellers can convey.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: If exponential character development could be translated into music, an ENFJ would surely embody that vibe. Their kind of music gravitates toward uplifting pop tunes that inspire positive action and unity. Think gospel choirs with full-bodied arrangements, and you get empowering supporters bringing music to the next level.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Whimsical is your middle name — your music is characterised by upbeat, eclectic mixes paired with feel-good funk. As an ENFP, you're most likely to thrive at Wanderland-style festivals that lean into vibrant energy without relying too heavily on unconventional synths. All you need are a glittery pair of dance shoes and some pure, bright, sparkly EDM.

💂🏻 The Sentinels (ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTJ, ESFJ)

When it comes to The Sentinels, you can count on no-nonsense music. This MBTI group values stability, so you're likely to hear orderly, consistent melodies whenever they're around. If you're someone who thrives on routine and appreciates structured, dependable sounds, this one's for you.

Settle into your routines and stand your ground with these sturdy tracks:

ISTJ - The Logistician: Givin’ Yourself Away by Ratt

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Among all the MBTIs, ISTJs are the most predictable and consistent, so expect their music vibes to lean toward established genres like classic rock and traditional folk. Consider straightforward drum patterns, clean instrumentals, and no unnecessary flair. There’s no genre-bending or excessive synths, just music that gets the job done.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: When it comes to support and strong shoulders to lean on, no one does it like the ISFJs. They’re likely described as music that’s comforting, evokes positive vibes, and feels like a safe embrace. Think soft country and golden oldies with warm tones and acoustic guitars that transport you to your most cherished memories.

ESTJ - The Executive: C-lebrity by Queen + Paul Rodgers

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: If you’ve heard the song “We Will Rock You” by Queen and “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple, that’s an ESTJ-coded vibe. Your music sounds like a stadium rock anthem filled with structured beats, a commanding presence, and an energy that makes you want to march like a cadet or rally a crowd of survivors in a zombie apocalypse.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Your music taste strikes a balance between romantic and logical. Think retro and Motown, characterised by group vocals and a lead singer driving the groove. ESFJ-infused music feels like a social sing-along session, featuring lively piano, bold brass sections, and catchy hooks that are easy for everyone in town to join in on.

💡 This Week’s Disc-Coveries

Let’s start with an original R&B instrumental I stumbled upon to get the vibes going! The creativity is really bursting with this one.

Also ICYMI, My Chemical Romance is coming to Asia, so be prepared to see your emo millennials rising from their 30s slumber and filling up the standing pit next year! In the meantime, here’s a cover from a Mayday Parade throwback hit to get you in the 2000s emo rock mood.

Finally, if you’re a big fan ‘80s romantic ballads, you should check out this saxophone solo over George Michael’s Careless Whisper. Forget about what the soloist says about the song not needing a sax solo, because this one is absolutely necessary.

@karstenbelt

🎶 New Music This Week

N Y C by Honestly: It’s been a while since I recommended a vibe that sounds like a summer night drive with an open roof, so here it is! If you listen closely, this song sounds like a mix of soundscapes by The Chainsmokers and Nightly.

talk to me nice by Jereena Montemayor: This track is giving baby blue girly R&B pop, all while delivering rounded vocals — this is for the strong and soft girlies who needs and deserve their princess treatment (as they should!!) 🎀

2AM by snap/shot and brent keanu: Okay hear me out — the vocalist sounds a lot like Alan Thomas from the band joan. That’s on top of how smooth the song sounds, it’s basically a joan song, just faster and more alt-pop.
