Sounds Like I’m Dreaming...💭
Vol. 43 | Vivid tunes from our inner subconscious
How’s everything going?
We’re heading into a stretch of what I like to call a holiday drought, which are longer periods with little to no public holidays, which means more time to stay productive and focused on whatever you’re working on. In the midst of all this bustle, don’t forget to wind down each night with feel-good music and get a good night’s sleep, so you can dream more deeply and wake up feeling fulfilled!
Speaking of dreams, I like to keep a journal of every vivid dream I remember, especially the symbolic ones. This week, I’m giving you a glimpse of some of them, and pairing each with a song that best describes the scene.
I think dreams hold a lot of power in the way they reveal emotions and thoughts buried deep inside us. Things that we don’t even know we have, but are not often experienced in the surface. Reflecting on these metaphysical experiences helps me reconnect with my true state of mind in a world that’s constantly humming with noise. It reminds me that out of all the voices in this world, the most important one to listen to is your own.
What have you been dreaming about lately? Or are you someone who experiences déjà vu too? Let this week’s music picks take you into that dream-like state and help clear away the fears and doubts quietly disrupting your core.
As always, whenever you feel troubled or anxious, you can always come here. This is a safe space for anyone who needs to connect with music in meaningful ways.
Wishing you an awesome week ahead ✨
Your music dream-catcher,
Val ♫

In this week's setlist:
🛌 Dreamy Vibes
Ever just be existing and suddenly feel disconnected from the present, like you’re in a dream? There’s that fleeting sense of untetheredness, where everything feels like a daze. I’ve always wondered what’s really happening beneath the surface of my subconscious when that moment hits.
Here are this week’s music picks inspired by those dream-like states:
😴 The Soundtrack of my Dreams
If you’re talking about the symbolic dreams I’ve had since was a child, I think I’ve had all kinds. There was once I dreamt I ate a big cloud and it tasted like marshmallow. In any case, every vivid dream has left me thinking deeply.
Here are just some of those REM-state moments:
-
“I’m at the thrift market and I met this guy, we became romantically close in a short span of time. When I had made up my mind to date him exclusively, he disappeared in a corner. I followed him to the alley where he was talking to someone on the phone, and that’s when I found out that he was making excuses so that I would get out of his hair.”
-
“I was ordering cheesecake with my dad at a cake shop, when an old woman approached us. Her features looked old but her hair was ebony black, her facial features were fair and Asian, and she was wearing an orange batik-style printed shirt. She gave off major fortune teller vibes.
She said something to Dad which I couldn’t remember, then she turned to me and spoke in my native language, "You haven’t graduated, have you?" It was a strange thing to say since I've already graduated from university, so I explained that I already did. Then she frowned. "I don’t think so. You’re not a graduate yet."
She said a bunch of other things which I can't remember, but the last thing she said was, "Think carefully – what do you really want to do in your life?”
-
“I was at an open concert with a couple of friends, when a wild macaw flew in and perched on top of my head. It stayed there for a good 30 minutes, and I was amazed at how comfortable it was with me, and me to it.
It had red feathers, with blue and yellow feathers on the front. It was also pretty big for a bird to sit on my head. And before it flew away, it laid eggs on my head??? My friends and I counted and there were 23 intact eggs.”
🔁 This Week’s Songs on Repeat
Peace by Elle Coves: The way this song sounds like an unreleased track from Taylor Swift’s 1989 album is scratching my brain in the best way. I can really hear Taylor’s background vocals, it makes me just want to keep listening.
Value by John Splithoff: Somehow this song just transports me to a big, sunny European city. The vibe is so niche (!), it’s the kind you’d hear at a hip café tucked away on a corner of a cobbled street.
🎶 New Music This Week
Disbelief by Tommy Lefroy: The lyrics have a sort of pacing that sounds part prayer and part poetry. Either way, the echoing vocals make it feel like a message carried by the wind.
Gravity by The Sleep Theory: Ever wondered how your favourite African-American R&B artist would sound in a punk rock genre? This track pairs The Weeknd’s higher registers with Neck Deep’s booming drums and menacing guitar riffs.
Throwing Darts by Darla Dean Lewis: 80s or now, girly synth pop is here to stay. Here’s a track that sounds a lot like if Cyndi Lauper dropped a new song in 2025.
