What’s Your MVTI?

Vol. 40 | Music Vibes based on your MBTI

Hello there,

How has your music exploration been going? I had a terrible viral infection for two weeks last month, and I was so tired from being sick that I took a break from social media and didn’t even open my usual music streaming platform for a week.

It was awful, really. Not only was it a music-less world, but I also fell behind on my go-to and discovery playlists. Luckily though, I had a couple of new songs saved in my backlog, so catching up wasn’t too difficult once I recovered.

If you haven’t been able to keep up with new music lately, don’t worry — life happens. As a Type A planner, it’s second nature for me to capture every new sound I hear in the moment. But if you simply don’t have the time to save songs on the go, starting fresh at the top of the hour, at the beginning of a new week, or even the start of a new month is a great way to get back on track.

The concept of cyclical resets in our reality is a wonderful one. It just means you always have a chance to start again. Well, it’s a new month, so you’ve got another shot to start or restart your habits. I invite you to take this time to check out some new vibes in the music scene 🎶

Reflective yaps aside, I’m kicking off a brand new two-part series this week and next: MVTIs, aka Major Vibes Type Indicator, a playful twist on the personality type system MBTI. I thought it would be fun to imagine what kind of music each MBTI type might embody (not to be confused with what music each MBTI type would like).

Of course, MBTI and music aren’t a perfect scientific correlation. It’s just my fun little thought experiment! Have a look at this week’s picks for our first 8 MBTI personality types, and let me know if the vibes match your personality. 🌟

Happy reading!

Until next week,

Val

In this week's setlist:

🔭 The Explorers (ISTP, ISFP, ESTP, ESFP)

What’s up thrill-seekers! This MBTI group is known for being highly attuned to real-world sensations; you thrive on spontaneity, and you never shy away from a little risk. Your music vibes reflect that same energy: bold, immersive, and full of movement.

Get into the groove with these spontaneous tracks:

ISTP - The Virtuoso: Blossom by Syncatto

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: ISTPs are those cool, technical rebels. Think electric guitar riffs, mechanical beats, and raw basslines playing in your head as they walk out of their warehouse garage. Your music vibe is like alternative rock that feels like a high-speed chase.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: ISFPs are sensual and intimate, so it’s no surprise that your kind of music echoes the same authentic, evocative storytelling style that’s full of heart. Your main vibe is like an indie folk piece, like painting a beautiful sunset in the style of Claude Monet.

ESTP - The Entrepreneur: Lovin Myself by Ava Max

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Move over, ENFJs — this is the real main character energy. Your music vibe is bold, playful, and high-energy, often characterized by upbeat EDM synths, punchy production, and irresistibly catchy hooks.

ESFP - The Entertainer: I’ll Be Waiting by Disco Hue

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: You’re the life of the party, so your vibe naturally aligns with the vibrant sounds of retro disco and pop party anthems. Expect colorful arrangements, glittery synths, and lively vocals — music that gets you living in the moment. And quite literally, you are the moment.

🔍 The Analysts (INTJ, INTP, ENTJ, ENTP)

Erudite energy runs deep in your veins! Out of all the MBTI groups, your defining trait is your sharp logic and intellectual depth. If your personality group had a music genre, it would be experimental, layered, and abstract. It’s the kind of sound that feels engineered in a lab, decoded through patterns, or understood in binary.

Work on your next big-picture projects with these practical tracks:

INTJ - The Architect: Transgender by Crystal Castles

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Your music aesthetic is darkwave, described as moody, cerebral, and layered with intention. Expect minor keys, shadowy synths, and tension-building progressive rock solos that feel like decoding a puzzle or a master plan unfolding.

INTP - The Logician: Supersoaker by Eartheater

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: You’re sometimes described as a walking paradox — abstract yet analytical, unconventional yet precise. Your curious, inventive spirit resonates with avant-garde and experimental electronic music. Think offbeat samples, glitchy textures, and unexpected soundscapes that doesn’t follow the rules. And neither do you.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: No other personality is quite as big-picture and visionary as the ENTJ type. Your kind of music is ambitious and anthemic, and the kind that commands attention. Think cinematic scores that radiate leadership and grit, with dramatic crescendos, bold instrumentals, and powerful vocals. Your genres could range from rock, orchestral, metal, to pop, but your songs are always the ones that lead the charge.

  • Your MVTI Characteristic: Just like your music taste, you love challenging the status quo. Your personality would likely pairs with alternative genres like indie punk, alt rock, and genre-bending tracks that defy the conventions of mainstream pop. It’s the kind of music that flips the beat, talks back, and keeps everyone guessing.

🎶 New Music This Week

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Corrina and Safehouse: This song is perfect for the break of dawn. It’s quiet for a calm cup of coffee, yet vocally loud to rouse you from your slumber.

Belief by Lobster: I love how chill this funky vibe is – it's just the right amount to get you subtly grooving on the train for a brand new day.
